If you received a letter from us, we have found some of your property.  This can be money, stocks, deposits, paychecks, bonds, etc.  We work closely with the government in obtaining the most up to date lists of property deemed to be "Abandoned" and have found you on that list.

Property is said to be abandoned when the company holding the funds (a bank, for example) deems the account to be dormant after a period of inactivity by the rightful owner.  Generally, after 5 years, the government requires the company holding the funds to turn the property over to the government for safekeeping. Note here that the government's role is that of a custodian only. The property, in almost all cases, never belongs to the state but is merely kept for the benefit of the original owner and their heirs and successors.

Not surprisingly, the government is not efficient at returning these funds to the original owners. We are.
